Our trip to Edinburgh

Blog-post Edinburgh

Scotland is a country in Europe and is part of the island of Great Britain, which is Europe´s largest island. It has a moderate sea climate with soft winters and cool summers. The beautiful country is full of green spaces, forests, mountains, and huge lochs (lakes). According to the latest census there are about 5,4 million inhabitants and the surface area is about 78722 km2. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland which has 525 thousand inhabitants.

On the second to last week of school we were on a class trip to Edinburgh. There we visited many famous sights. Our highlights were Edinburgh castle as well as the tour through the city, as Edinburgh is a very beautiful city and we enjoyed our time exploring it. We stayed with a host family. They were very kind and accommodating, which we are immensely grateful for. In addition, our host family lived directly near the sea, so we spent a lot of time at the beach, which was a great bonus. On the last day we took a boat trip on the sea. It was quite windy, but nevertheless we were fascinated to spot a couple seals and enjoyed our time. The biggest difference we noticed was the climate. It was always windy, and the weather tended to stay below 20 degrees. Additionally, we noted that the people are much friendlier than in Austria. As an example, if someone was in the way, they apologized immediately or even if we did not know our way around, we got help from strangers. All in all, we are very happy to have gained this experience and have met so many amazing people in such a short time and wish to visit again someday!
